Malta:
pay tuition
after the visa.

Most consultancies make you pay tuition upfront, then pray for a visa. Malta works differently: visa first, then payment. Add English-only instruction, merit scholarships of up to 50 percent, and a one-year diploma option, and this is the budget entry point to Europe.

Why Malta

Four reasons Kerala families pick Malta.

The lowest-risk, lowest-cost entry to an EU degree, entirely in English.

South Indian student with an approved Malta visaFee-after-visa

Lowest upfront risk

At our partner universities tuition is paid only after visa approval. A refused visa costs you nothing in fees.

No second language

All higher education in Malta runs in English, and English is an official language of daily life too.

1

Profile review and program selection

1 to 2 weeks

University of Malta, MCAST, American University of Malta and partner institutions. Programs in business, IT, tourism, maritime and healthcare, matched to your profile by a senior counsellor.

2

Application package

3 to 6 weeks

Transcripts, SOP, LORs and English proof. IELTS is not always required; a university medium-of-instruction letter is sometimes sufficient. Direct online applications.

3

Conditional offer and visa application

4 to 8 weeks

Conditional Letter of Acceptance issued, then the visa application at Malta High Commission Delhi or VFS Mumbai with financial proof, accommodation and insurance.

4

Visa approval, then tuition payment

4 to 6 weeks

The key Malta-specific step: the tuition deposit is paid only after visa approval, which dramatically reduces financial risk. Cokonet structures the payment milestones.

5

Residence permit on arrival

2 to 4 weeks

Identity Malta processes the residence card within a few weeks of arrival, and the PR clock starts. Part-time work opens after your first 90 days.

How Malta de-risks it

Visa first. Tuition after.

Prajeesh's route, start to settled. This is the structure that makes Malta add up.

Gateway to Europe

The fee-after-visa structure is contractually arranged with specific partner universities, not all of Malta. Scholarship percentages depend on your academic profile and intake. We confirm both for your case on the first counsellor call.

🎓
Scholarships
Up to 50% scholarship available
Selected Malta partner universities offer merit-based scholarships covering up to half the tuition. Eligibility depends on your academic profile, English test scores, and intake. Counsellors will match you to the right scholarship track on the first call.

Frequently asked

Malta questions Kerala families ask.

Is the fee-after-visa structure really guaranteed? +
It is contractually arranged for specific Malta universities that Cokonet has partnerships with. The structure: small admission deposit (refundable) upfront, full tuition only after visa is approved. Not all Maltese universities follow this; we route students only to ones that do.
Is the Maltese degree recognised in EU and India? +
Yes. Malta is a full EU member, so its degrees are recognised across the EU under EU directives. In India, recognition depends on the program; most professional degrees (business, IT, hospitality) are accepted by Indian employers without additional certification.
What about post-study work in Malta? +
Malta gives international graduates up to 1 year post-study to find a job. After finding a qualifying job, you switch to a Single Permit (work + residence combined). The pathway to PR runs through 5 years of legal residence.
Is the Kerala community strong in Malta? +
Smaller than UK or Canada, but growing. Most Kerala migrants in Malta work in hospitality, healthcare, or IT. Established Indian restaurants and grocery stores in Valletta and nearby areas.
Why is Malta cheaper than Western EU? +
Tuition is set lower to attract international students (Malta competes for the same students as Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania). Living costs are mid-range. The compact geography means transport costs are low.
